Winkler played “Rhapsody Brillante,” a piano piece, as her talent during Saturday’s event at Rowland Auditorium on the Jasper campus of Bevill State Community College. She will now move on to compete for the title of Miss Alabama.
“I’m very excited and kind of in shock,” Winkler said. “I did not expect this, but I’m ready to compete at Miss Alabama.”
Winning the competition earned Winkler a scholarship worth $1,800. She also won the talent portion of the competition, which earned her another $400 scholarship. Hanna Muncher, a communications major at the University of Alabama, was named runner-up and also was given the Leigh Sherer Award, which brought her total scholarship winnings to $1,600. The Dorothy and Nelson Hudson Memorial Scholarship was given to Katie Cagle, a Walker High graduate and current Bevill State student.
The mistress of ceremonies for Saturday’s competition was Miss Walker County 2008 Claire O’Rear. The theme for the pageant was “Dancing in the Street.”
Miss Walker County 2011 Maegen Moore crowed Winkler.
“It has been an honor to be Miss Walker County for the last year,” Moore said.
The Miss Walker County Pageant has been sponsored by the Pilot Club of Jasper for 40 years and is an official Miss Alabama/Miss America preliminary pageant.
